CPD Partners with Bartell Drugs and the HSHC Foundation to offer free dental care
(Seattle, WA) – February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and this year, emphasizing the importance of oral health to a child’s overall health, the UW Center for Pediatric Dentistry has partnered with Bartell Drugs to provide 115 children in need dental care checkups. Bartell’s charitable contribution was matched by the Healthy Smiles Healthy Children: the Foundation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry to provide the funding for this initiative. Crest/Oral B is also providing free toothbrushes for nearly 500 children as part of the project.
Families are invited to contact the Center at 543-5800 to request a voucher that will be good for a dental exam, xrays, teeth cleaning and fluoride application during the month of February.
Dean Joel Berg of the UW School of Dentistry noted that “As a pediatric dentist, I’m excited to have the support of Bartell Drugs and the Healthy Smiles Healthy Children Foundation for our Children’s Dental Health Month activities at the UW Center for Pediatric Dentistry. Their help, plus a valuable contribution from Crest/Oral B, will make it possible for us to provide preventive care for more than 100 children in need at the Center during the month.”
Dean Berg noted that proclamations supporting Children’s Dental Health Month have been issued by the state of Washington, King, Pierce and Snohomish counties and 20 Washington cities, and added: “It’s truly heartening to see this level of commitment from our community as we encourage all parents or caregivers to bring their children to the dentist this month and help them learn good oral health habits.”
“Bartell’s is pleased to be part of helping put children’s dental care in the spotlight,” said Ric Brewer, Senior Communications Manager for Bartells. “Effective and early dental care and hygiene is the foundation to long-term health and wellness.”
“Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children believes that every child, regardless of life’s circumstances, deserves a Dental Home – a place to receive consistent, compassionate dental care. That’s why we are so pleased to support The Center for Pediatric Dentistry, an organization that continually creates unique solutions and partnerships to increase access to care and provide Dental Homes for Seattle’s most vulnerable populations,” said Dr. Neophytos L. Savide, president, Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children. “Community Children’s Smiles will provide treatment for children along with education for parents, so good dental health can become part of the family routine. Not just for a day, but for a lifetime.”
As part of the effort to promote dental hygiene throughout the community, Bartells is offering a $1.00 in-store coupon for any of its Premier Value toothbrushes. With each toothbrush purchased through this offer, a free toothbrush will be provided to a child in need through Crest/Oral B. Look for the brochure coupon in the dental care aisle at all Bartell Drugs locations through February.
At the Center for Pediatric dentistry website, www.thecenterforpediatricdentistry.com, parents can learn about when children should have their first dental visit, ways to prevent early childhood caries, when to expect changes from primary to permanent teeth, proper brushing and flossing techniques, thumbsucking, dental sealants, choosing the right mouth protector for active children and adolescents, and teaching their children to say no to tobacco. Parents will also learn about the importance of regular dental examinations.
