Dr. Thomas Tanbonliong is currently a Teaching Professor and the Program Director of the Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Residency at the University of Washington/Seattle’s Children’s Hospital. He oversees resident education, curriculum development, clinical training, and compliance with CODA accreditation standards in collaboration with Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Seattle Children’s Hospital Odessa Brown Community Clinic.

His professional interests include pediatric sedation, minimally invasive dentistry, and interdisciplinary care for children with special health care needs. He has contributed to textbooks and published in peer-reviewed journals on a wide range of topics in pediatric dentistry.
Beyond his role at UW, Dr. “Tom” is actively engaged in organized dentistry at the national level. He serves on the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s committees on Post-Doctoral Education and the Committee on Clinical Affairs and is a member of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry’s exam committee. He is also a trustee of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation and a past president of the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Tom is dedicated to advancing the specialty by training well-rounded and clinically skilled pediatric dentists who are prepared to provide the highest level of care to the most vulnerable pediatric and special needs patients. His philosophy emphasizes compassionate patient care, lifelong learning, and collaboration, values he instills throughout the residency program.
